Prohibition is the banning of alcohol use. Organized crime is a group of people who have structure in doing crimes. Bootlegging is making a false version of something. Speakeasies and bars/clubs that sell alcohol illegally. Al Capone is a widely known criminal. During WW1 the support of prohibition was increased because soldiers needed bread, but the resources were being used for alcohol. The 189th amendment forbade the manufacture, distribution, and sale of alcohol anywhere in the U.S. However, this did not stop people from using alcohol. Bootleggers would sell illegal alcohol to consumers. In cities secret drinking establishments, called speakeasies, attracted eager customers. Millions of dollars were made by both organized and unorganized criminals. Al Capone was probably the most widely recognized name. He made deals with law-enforcement officials, politicians, agency heads at state and local levels, and even governors and congressmen. He was initiated into crime and violence as a teenager. He was hired as a bouncer in a brothel. Doing this he got a knife wound. The wound is what brought about his nickname, Scarface. Capone assaulted his teacher in 6th grade, 14 years old and left school to further his education in the streets.
